Misconception of Massage
There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to massage. Most of the population will see it as a luxury only for the rich. However we should all be looking at it as a necessary tool to help fix current problems and prevent future problems. We live in a society that puts our own health on the back burner for the sake of our families and our friends. We always put ourselves last and it’s time to make a change. Put yourself first for once and reap the benefits of feeling fantastic!
Massages don’t always need to be painful – even if you are getting a relaxing (Swedish) massage, there are still numerous benefits to be had from the treatment such as increasing circulation, decreasing stress and helping decrease blood pressure, and that’s only one style of massage.
Whether it’s emotional or physical stress, massage therapy can be one of your best tools available to help the body heal itself. As a clinical therapist I am constantly seeing clients with a variety of aches and pains that they have left untreated for months or even years. If it’s not bad posture at work, it’s performing exercises at the gym incorrectly with poor technique or even a lack of movement during their day to day life. Because these short and long term challenges are going untreated, in most cases they end in bigger, more serious issues which require a lot more treatment.
What I always recommend to my clients (and even for myself!) is to book in for a regular massage every 3-4 weeks in order to keep these issues at bay and keep your muscles feeling healthy. Even if you don’t have any current issues that you can ‘feel’, there are always underlying postural challenges that can result in aches and pains later down the track. Massage will not only tackle these issues but also help you perform at your optimum.
It’s time to stop thinking of massage as a luxury you can’t afford but more of a necessity to help your body deal with its daily activities and give your body the best chance it has to perform at its peak. Stop putting yourself on the back burner… because if you don’t take care of yourself, who will?
See you in the clinic 🙂
