Massage for Sports Recovery

IMG_0990I think it’s safe to say we have all been in a position where we are training like mad to reach our goals and just when you make some process, you get injured. I’ve been there a few times myself and the main reason this happens is because of inadequate rest. In the fitness world we generally say a group of muscles needs more than 24 hours to fully recover in order to be ready for its next work out. Ever notice how you’re DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) usually last one to 2 days?

It’s not uncommon for people to keep training their sore muscles instead of waiting for them to recover. And aside from bad technique it’s a huge cause of injury in the sporting world. I work with various sporting teams in the NRL and I can honestly say without a regular recovery massage after their games and during their training sessions, most would fall apart at the start of the season.

Sport massage helps decrease the tightness in your muscles (reducing chance of muscle tears), improves your circulation (clears waste products and brings more nutrients to your muscles) and it increases recovery speed. And the best part is, you don’t have to be a professional athlete to justify getting a sport massage. I recommend it to anyone and everyone who is currently training or thinking about training.

Sport massage shouldn’t be a treat for yourself, it should be part of your training regime. So come in for a sport massage and I promise the next training session will feel like you’re in a brand new body.
